Ludlow Spring Festival

Ludlow Spring Festival

Ludlow Spring Festival is the sister event of the Food Festival organised by the same team with a similar vibe, but takes place in May so gets the festival season off to a great start. Like the Food Festival, the event takes place in the dramatic setting of Ludlow Castle. The SIBA (Society of Independent Brewers) tent has over 200 real ales form around the county and beyond. Most of the local brewers are present, including Hobsons and Ludlow Brewery, and a host of food stalls will ensure you won’t go hungry. There is live music in the marquee as well as talks and activities for kids. The Ludlow Spring Festival also combines the Marches Transport Festival when the castle courtyard is host to a variety of classic cars, vans, tractors and bikes.

Ludlow Food Festival

Ludlow Food Festival

Ludlow Food Festival was started in 1995 as a way of promoting the small food and drink producers of Ludlow and the surrounding area. It started as a relatively low key affair in the Castle Square but rapidly grew and then moved into the Ludlow Castle grounds. The area has always had an abundance of top quality produce to choose from and as such has attracted top chefs like Chistopher Bradley and Shaun Hill. Now there are a dizzying array of top producers on show, with a host of smaller independent farms, brewers and distillers amongst others.

Taking place in September, the Ludlow Food Festival has a programme of talks and demonstrations from top chefs and food producers from around the country. There are also side events such as the Sausage Trail, Pork Pie of the Marches and the Ale Trail. The Ludlow Magnalonga also takes place at this time. It is described as a ‘ramble and a feast in the marches countryside’. It is very popular so early booking is advised.

The organisers of the Ludlow Food Festival also organise a sister event called the Ludlow Spring Festival which happens in May.
